Excavation Observations
|
SK Geotechnical provides on-site
subgrade and excavation observations during construction
of buildings, highways, and embankments. These
engineering observations, commonly referred to as
"foundation special inspection," are a critical component
to evaluate proper foundation, slab, and pavement
support.
|
| |
Purpose of On-Site Excavation
Observations
|
- Confirm the soils encountered on the site are
similar to those encountered by the geotechnical
evaluation.
- Observe the removal of unsuitable existing fill,
topsoil, and excessively soft/compressible soils from
beneath foundations and slabs.
- Perform strength tests on the footing and floor
subgrades to further evaluate bearing capacity and
suitability.

Purpose of Pavement Subgrade
Observations
|
- Perform proof-rolling observations to identify
unstable areas, which can cause delays during
construction.
- Provide subgrade stabilization alternatives such as
- Geotextile/geogrid sections
- Subexcavation and replacement
- Cement or lime treatment
