Under this new system, the contractor is now responsible for duties previously conducted by agency field and agency plant inspectors – making the tasks of developing qualified personnel and implementing the necessary laboratory facilities increasingly complicated. Field Testing Facilities
We have two mobile field testing laboratories for quality control testing of bituminous mixtures along with our in-house bituminous and aggregate trial mix laboratory. This laboratory is capable of conducting the following bituminous related tests. Aggregate quality testing (percent crushed, spall, shale, etc.) Asphalt extraction – American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D 2172 Extracted aggregate gradations – American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) T30 Marshall density testing – ASTM D 2726 Marshall stability and flow – ASTM D 1559, AASHTO T245 Maximum theoretical (Rice) specific gravity – ASTM D 2041 Thickness and density of pavement cores – ASTM D 3549 and ASTM D 2726 Virgin aggregate gradations – ASTM C 13
A Commitment to Quality
Along with our skills and experience in pavement research, design, and materials testing, we have a fully implemented quality assurance program. Our highly trained laboratory and field staff are provided with modern calibrated equipment. Our test instruments are regularly checked and calibrated, using equipment traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (formerly the National Bureau of Standards). Our laboratory meets the requirements of ASTM D 3666, "Evaluating and Qualifying Agencies Testing and Inspecting Bituminous Paving Materials."
